UN SILENCE D’ÉTOILES – Silence of the Stars – is the first personal exhibition by artist Volodymyr Kuznetsov in Mironova gallery. The exhibition is expanding the aesthetic experience of the wall painting Building a New Country Together, which was realised by the artist as his contribution for the group exhibition And Now – The Power of Art, which took place from 28.03. until 11.05.2014.

The Silence of the Stars describes the existential experience in a cosmic universe, which does not communicate with us, beside the permanent evidence that it exists in time and space. Strangely enough in the same continuum, where we find ourselves living in. The unbearable muteness of the cosmos marks a metaphysical dilemma. We must assume that we are complety alone, insecure about spirit and purpose of our existence, condemned to be ourselves and to create our own world.

The magical experience of a full shining and glittering firmament throws us back into the day by day reality, which is not defined by metaphysical mysteries or magic relations, but simply by the people themselves. Their interests, dreams and objectives, their game with power and dominance, their fights about who is in control of power, define the political reality and the making of decisions.

Silence of the Stars stands for a artistic reflection about the role of art and the obligations, responsibilities and possibilities of artists in the societal actuality. It reflects on these general questions but also on the specific difficult task, how an artists can react and act in a political situation when a nation and the people are standing on the brink of a civil war.

Volodymyr Kuznetsov, born 1976 in Lutsk, Ukraine, who studied at the Lviv Art Academy from 1999 to 2005, has an answer. He is actively engaged in the discussions about the organisation of the societal structures and in his art work he harks back to the basic tool of artistic expression – a sheet of paper and a pencil.

Drawing is a very direct means of transforming the complex, multi-dimensional outside reality into an icon, an image creating a world. At the same time, the line of the pencil allows the artists a myriad of ways for emotional and psychological shades, which add unique and highly personal nuances to his vision of the world. The artist creates an image of a situation, a mood, an emotion, which enables the viewer to experience the complexity of the world with the eyes of someone else. In this way, looking at a drawing, defines the moment of a direct visual communication, not about the world as a whole outside reality, but as a view into the unique and personal creation of a world of some other person, in this case the vision and view of the artist.
